Stanford's Lopez Twins Heading To NBA

POSTED: 11:27 pm PDT March 31, 2008

(Sports Network) - One of college basketball's most formidable frontcourt duos is reportedly headed to the NBA. According to a San Francisco Chronicle story, Brook and Robin Lopez, twin sophomore seven-footers on the Stanford men's basketball team, have announced their intentions to enter the NBA Draft and forfeit their final two seasons of eligibility.

Stanford is expected to have an announcement on Tuesday.

Brook Lopez was named to the Associated Press' All-America third team Monday, just three days after Stanford's season was ended with a loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. His decision to go pro comes as little surprise, but Robin is not considered such a sure-fire first-round pick.

Brook, who missed the first nine games of his sophomore season after being declared academically ineligible, averaged 19.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game for the 28-8 Cardinal.

Robin posted averages of 10.2 points and 2.3 blocks per game, though he raised his scoring average to 12.5 per over the final 13 outings.

The twins turned 20 on Monday, and become just the fifth and sixth players in the program's history to leave school early for the pros. They have until June 16 to withdraw their names from the draft, provided they do not sign with agents.
