GowerJanet Gower is a registered nurse and the lead teacher of the Health Careers Academy at Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord. Before teaching in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Gower was a nurse for 11 years at John Muir Medical Center. Using her knowledge and experience as a nurse, Gower inspires her students to enter the medical field. She also teaches her students how to learn and apply their skills outside the classroom through cooperative learning and hands-on activities. She started a chapter of Health Occupations Students of America at the school in order for students to develop their leadership skills and career goals.

Gower establishes strong relationships with her students. According to Gower, "A good teacher is one who can make a connection with her students." The connection she has built with her students led her to being voted the school's most inspiring teacher among the senior class two years ago.
