Berlin Tradition Dances Through SF

When the San Francisco version of Berlin's long-running Love Parade made its debut four years ago, nearly 40,000 revelers turned out for a celebratory dance-music party that filled downtown streets. Though it may be far smaller than the Berlin electronic festival was at its peak (an estimated 1.5 million attended in 2000), the inaugural San Francisco event proved to be a positive, one-of-a-kind experience for everyone involved.Rechristened once again for the 2009 edition, this year's San Francisco LovEvolution parade and festival will once again pack thousands into the Civic Center for the celebration. This year's line-up of parade floats features plenty of hometown flavor with a variety of SF-based clubs, DJ collectives, record labels and party producers such as [KONTROL], Supperclub, Spundae, Qool, TempleSF, Pink, Ruby Skye, Triple Crown, Om Records, Anon Salon and Space Cowboys participating.Unlike any annual parade the City host, the lovEvolution is a "no spectators" event. Attendees are encouraged to dress outrageously and dance alongside floats for the entire length of the route. The event embraces the original spirit of the Berlin Love Parade, celebrating diversity and tolerance while fostering community -- a perfect fit for San Francisco. The parade is scheduled to start in downtown San Francisco's financial district Market and 2nd Streets. Music will start at 11:30 a.m. with the actual procession beginning at 12 p.m.The Parade will proceed up Market Street to the Civic Center location of the post-parade Festival that will run into the early evening. The daytime festival and a stellar line-up of house, techno, trance, drum 'n' bass acts delivering DJ sets including Fischer Spooner, Groove Armada, DeadMau5, DJ Dan and Donald Glaude (performing together on four turntables), Eddie Halliwell, Andy Moor, Dyloot and more. The main LovEvolution stage will also present a performance by cutting-edge neo-vaudeville/circus collective The Mutaytor. Many of these acts will also make apperances at numerous LoveEvolution afterparties happening all over the city.
