The second "Rings" will be in people's hands by the end of the summer.

New Line Home Entertainment has announced that the second film of their "Lord of the Rings" trilogy "The Two Towers" is coming out on video and DVD on August 26.

Like last year's "Fellowship of the Ring," the video release of "The Two Towers" will first be released in its original theatrical form, and followed up by an extended version of the film on VHS and DVD in November.

The film continues the journey of hobbit Frodo Baggins' (Elijah Wood), who is on a path to destroy the "Ring of Power" which, in the wrong hands, has the power to enslave the world.

The film -- which co-stars Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Liv Tyler, Orlando Bloom, John Rhys-Davies and Sean Astin -- earned over $337 million at the box office during its theatrical run. It also earned six Oscar nominations this spring including Best Picture, and won two.

According to New Line, the two-disc DVD release of the film will contain a sneak preview of the extended edition of "The Two Towers," footage from the third installment "The Return of the King," a video game preview of "The Return of the King" and a music video for "Gollum's Song" by Emiliana Torrini. Also on the DVD is "The Long and Short of It," a documentary by Astin that details the making of the film series.

Adapted for the screen from J.R.R. Tolkien's novels and directed by Peter Jackson, "The Lord of the Rings" series set a film precedent by becoming the first trilogy to be shot simultaneously.

"The Return of the King" will debut in theaters on Dec. 17.
