Over the course of 2003, KTVU movie critic Bob Shaw and 'Mornings On 2' entertainment correspondent Mark Pitta have both had a chance to speak with a number of people involved with this year's big Oscar nominees. Take a look back and see what some of these actors and directors had to say about their films.

'Finding Nemo'

Mark Pitta gets a behind-the-scenes perspective on Pixar's summer blockbuster 'Finding Nemo' when he has a talk with the co-directors of the animated underwater adventure, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich.

'Monster'

Already a Golden Globe winner, Charlize Theron looks to be the favorite for the Best Actress trophy with her stunning portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 'Monster.' Mark Pitta spoke with her soon after the Golden Globe nominations were announced.

'Master and Commander'

Though he won't be up for a Best Actor award this year, Russell Crowe's film 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World' racked up an impressive ten Oscar nominations. Bob Shaw discussed the making of the film with the notoriously cantankerous Aussie star.

'Seabiscuit'

A classic Hollywood entry in the Oscar race, 'Seabiscuit' will definitely appeal to the more old-fashioned members of the Academy. Bob Shaw met with 'Seabiscuit' lead Tobey Maguire about making the film.

'The Last Samurai'

Tom Cruise got shut out of the Best Actor Nominations this year, but his ambitious and adventurous period film 'The Last Samurai' will still have a chance to pick up a few awards at the February 29th ceremony. Cruise discusses the movie with Bob Shaw in this interview.

'Pirates of the Caribbean'

One of the biggest critical and box-office surprises of the summer was the Disney action film 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,' largely thanks to Johnny Depp's over-the-top performance as Captain Jack Sparrow. Bob Shaw spoke with Depp about the film in July of last year.
