OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) – Social media was abuzz Thursday over verbal sparring between American Idol judge Harry Connick Jr. and contestant Quentin Alexander Wednesday night.
Alexander had advanced on Wednesday show to next week's round and had just finished singing "Are You Going To Go My Way" by Lenny Kravitz when he showed his disappointment that two of his friends – Joey Cook and Rayvon Owen – faced elimination.
When interviewed by host Ryan Seacrest after the song, Alexander said: "We have two of the best vocalists (facing elimination)…This whole thing is whack…but I'm going to shut up."
Connick took exception to the comment and fired back as Alexander left the stage – "Quentin, if it's that whack, then you can always go home... What's whack it's a competition."
Alexander returned from backstage and walked up to Connick. The two exchanged words before Alexander left the stage and the competition continued.
After the show, Alexander said he may have been misunderstood, but he won't change anything he said.
