The Parol is the quintessential Filipino symbol of hope, blessings, luck, peace and light during the holiday season. It begins in October with a three-month-long series of parol-making workshops, producing hundreds of lanterns that are displayed during the parade, as well as the festival program in Yerba Buena Gardens. The workshops are held at the Bayanihan Community Center and at other participating sites in San Francisco and the Bay Area. The theme of this year's Parol celebration is "Parol: The Beacon of Our Home."
