Tremor Low is a four-piece band hailing from Oakland that creates insistent, brooding post-punk/new-wave music.
The group has spent the last 3 years honing their sound and begins 2012 with the release of a new 5 song EP entitled Kingmaker, recorded with engineer/producer Jamie Hill (Jens Lekman, Nada Surf). Each song is delivered in the most urgent fashion, swooning through stories of loss and lust, vengeance and greed. "Kingmaker" is the ultimate expression of what Tremor Low is: a state of frenzy that demands to be heard.
“Dreamy ’60′s soundscapes and doo-wop harmonies with an aggressively talented female front… Like Amy Winehouse went on holiday with Vampire Weekend” is MTV Buzzworthy’s reflection of indie rock and roll band The Royalty. Best described as soulful, female-led indie pop, the group’s sound is influenced by the girl-groups of the 1960’s and the R&B singers of the 1970’s.
The close-knit band is comprised of singer Nicole Boudreau, guitarist Jesus Apodaca, keyboardist Daniel Marin Jr., drummer Joel Quintana, and bassist Mike Hernandez. Formed in the desert city of El Paso, Texas in 2005, The Royalty signed to Victory Records in November 2011 and released their critically-acclaimed album LOVERS in May of 2012.
The New York Times has written that LOVERS is both “invigorating” and “fresh,” labeling it “one of the year’s most unexpected and enjoyable rock records.” The enthusiasm has been echoed by other music outlets, with Chicago NPR station WBEZ dubbing the album “infectious,” and The Washington Post noting that “Miss Boudreau’s vocals were made for this sort of nostalgic music, and she’d probably do a killer version of ‘Rolling in the Deep’… When your own songs are this good, though, there’s no need to resort to cover tunes.”
The Royalty has packed their reverb pedals and toured across the country in support of LOVERS, including multiple showcase performances at the 2012 SXSW Festival. The band has also wowed audiences at Austin’s famed Stubb’s BBQ, and Silver Lake hot spot The Satellite. Past performances include the Neon Desert Music Festival, and LA’s Viper Room and Knitting Factory. The Royalty’s music has also been featured on MTV, CW, Showtime, and Spike TV television shows. $8 in Advance/$10 at the Door
