Join Christopher Costanza, cellist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, for a three-part symposium combining performances of the Bach Cello Suites with presentations and discussions by faculty colleagues and students on a range of topics: cultural history, cognitive analysis of rhythm, and musical embodiment of Baroque social dances. This event will feature Suite No. 3 in C Major and Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major, as well as a presentation by guest speaker Charles Kronengold, Assistant Professor in Musicology. Following Mr. Costanza’s CD release of all six suites and launching of a collaborative website about Bach, this performance series is presented by the Stanford Department of Music and is made possible by a grant from the Stanford Arts Institute.
