One mixture was a not so tasty blend of rubbing alcohol and caramel food coloring.
That was upscale compared to the restaurant that was caught using, and we’re not kidding here, dirty water as booze.
That HAD to be some bad hooch.
The sting was state wide and helped New Jersey workers catch 29 watering holes passing off some sort of low grade alcohol or worse as top shelf, high dollar drinks.
One state official pointed out that several of the places had filled up premuim bottles of alcohol with cheap stuff. But he was stunned by the disregard others used telling the Asbury Park Press they "didn’t even bother doing that. They literally just filled it with whatever they had available."
New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa released a statement saying “this alleged scheme is a dishonest ruse to increase profits and it is a slap in the face to the consumer. Consumers should have the peace of mind of knowing that they will get what they spent their hard-earned money on every single time – no exceptions.”
When the drive called dubbed Operation Swill was over it had confiscated 1,000 bottles of the stuff.
