Assistant News Director
Responsibilities: Seeking a dynamic, experienced News leader with excellent news judgment to be second in command in the newsroom. With the direction of the VP/News Director, oversees daily news operation on all platforms. Must have strong knowledge of digital and social media operations and well as emerging trends in new media. Will manage a large editorial team across two television stations and work closely with executive producers, reporters and digital staff. Strong planning skills a must. Qualified candidate must also demonstrate knowledge of current local, national and international events and issues. Represent the station in a manner consistent with the business standards and policies of the Company. Assist with resolution of staffing and equipment issues. Candidates should also be able to manage newsroom expenses, subpoenas, licensing, and vendor contracts. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Requirements: Journalism degree from a 4-year college and a minimum of five years’ experience in news management with noted leadership skills is required. Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel and privacy laws. Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts. Must have excellent supervisory, people and management skills. Requires a unique and diverse combination of computer, engineering, budgeting, purchasing, cost control, personnel issues and planning experience along with a background in journalism and TV news. Must be able to use newsroom computer systems, including iNews.
Responsibilities: Assist the Vice President/General Manager of KTVU and KTVU Plus by acting as liaison with other station executives, corporate, clients, community organizations, etc., using discretion, judgment and initiative. Schedules appointments for General Manager and maintains calendar. Maintains confidential files and other records precisely and in a timely manner. Schedules meetings and station events. Use judgment on all details of these arrangements, including cost. This position includes station-wide duties including: making travel arrangements for all departments, ordering office supplies, checking in package deliveries, incoming and outgoing mail, toner cartridge recycle program and conference room scheduling. Also assists station Department Heads with various duties, as assigned. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Requirements: A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required plus three years administrative or executive assistant experience. Business or college degree preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office product experience required. Must have the ability to carry out duties described above independently and with absolute confidentiality. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from corporate executives, managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Responsibilities: Provide original news content for KTVU FOX 2, ktvu.com, and associated media partners by successfully accomplishing the following responsibilities: gather news information; write news stories, conduct taped and live interviews and be able to present material in a compelling and engaging manner. Must contribute to social media efforts; initiate research and enterprise stories; update and follow up on stories and communicate with managers and assignment editors about past, current and future stories. Additional duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Requirements: Must have a broad working knowledge of police procedures, the court system, and municipal, state and federal government operations and must have strong knowledge of legal and ethical parameters of reporting for mass media. Ability to work under stressful conditions and deadlines is a must. Maintaining a strong roster of contacts and sources is required. Strong working knowledge of the technical aspects of television news production required, including digital and web-based newsgathering tools. Must be able to use newsroom computer systems, and possess expertise in researching material essential to putting together comprehensive news stories. Must be a strong writer and communicator and have demonstrated interview skills. A professional appearance is essential. Must annunciate clearly, and maintain a clear delivery during both live and taped reports. Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus. 4–year college degree required with emphasis in Communications and Journalisms preferred. 3 -5 years’ experience in a medium to major market.
Responsibilities: The investigative reporter is responsible for gathering news materials, interviewing persons both on and off camera, preparing and presenting news reports either live on-air or in a pre-recorded format. The investigative reporter must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to follow leads to develop long-form enterprise stories unique to FOX 2. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling content for newscasts. Strong writing, on-air presentation and social media skills are required. Must actively follow current events on a local, national, and international level. Develop and cultivate sources for investigative news purposes. Investigative reporter will also cover daily breaking stories as needed and participate daily in reporting station news on social media and station website.
Qualifications: Proven ability to gather and present news either live or recorded for broadcast, online, and other digital platforms. The reporter must be able to research thoroughly, write clearly in broadcast style, and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner, for on-air or online broadcasts. Strong writing and producing skills are essential.
Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television. Ability to adapt to a fast paced quickly changing environment and to react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with peers and superiors and to develop contacts outside the building to aid in newsgathering.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field required. Must have a minimum of three years’ experience as an Investigative Reporter in a mid-to-large size market. Must be able to meet aggressive deadlines while still completing high-quality stories.
Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Responsibilities: Candidate will provide administrative support to the KTVU Fox 2 and KICU TV36 Sales management staff and Account Executives. Duties include writing and checking orders, proposals, maintaining organizational systems, general office requirements, and assisting with special projects. Investigate order discrepancies and credit memos. Back up other sales assistants as necessary. Participate in and help with sales coordinated events. Answer phones in a professional and courteous manner. Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Requirements: Strong written/oral communication skills are required. Strong PC skills and proficiency w/ Microsoft Office is also required. This position requires excellent attention to detail, and accuracy. Must be able to interact professionally with a variety of people and work efficiently and courteously w/ station personnel. Must be personable and demonstrate initiative. Two years of experience in an administrative position is required. Media experience preferred. High school diploma or GED is required. College degree preferred.
Responsibilities: Write clear, factual and unbiased news stories in the style assigned by the News Director and Executive Producers. Re-write wire copy and write news scripts from information supplied by Reporters and other news sources in an active, conversational style for broadcast television. Coordinate and edit News videotape to make the best use of video and sound. This includes desktop editing. Write news stories in a manner that communicates the interest and urgency of the news to viewers. Ability to line produce newscasts on a fill-in basis are essential for this job. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Journalism or Communication required. Two to three years' experience in News writing required. Newscast producing experience is a big plus, as is experience working with iNews, Edius and Bit Central systems. Must be thoroughly professional in all aspects of journalism. Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide-range working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects. AFTRA union membership required.
Local Sales Manager
Responsibilities: Candidate will have responsibility for sale of ad time and digital assets to local/regional clients-agencies. Assist with the training, development and motivation of a local sales team. Establish and monitor local budgets. Develop/implement new business plan. Develop rating estimates and assist with research pieces. Deal effectively with a varied list of clients. Communicate effectively with and establish strong relationships with local agencies & clients. Demonstrate leadership to the department and fellow managers; all designed to achieve and exceed station goals and objectives on all media platforms; television, internet, mobile and digital channels. Maintain LPM market rating and programming knowledge. Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Requirements: Candidate must have experience in staff supervision, adhere to and enforce company policies and procedures. Candidate must have knowledge of marketing, retail and competitive media, ratings, pricing, inventory control and budgeting. Candidate must demonstrate ability to solve problems creatively. Candidate must be detail oriented, resourceful, a team player, reliable and a self-starter. Must have excellent computer skills and knowledge of industry software is required. Strong written/oral communications, presentation and management skills are also required. Varied hours, weekends, holidays and local and national travel is required. Must have or be willing to obtain reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. College degree (or equivalent work experience) and 3 to 5 years major market broadcast sales experience is required.
Traffic Assistant/Log Editor
Responsibilities: Strong analytical skills are needed to join this exciting and fast-paced organization. As part of the Commercial Operations team, you will be responsible for configuring, monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing our daily logs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Work with inventory, program formats, process and download Station logs. Back-up other position in the traffic department as needed. Works closely with Local Sales Account Executives, National and Local Sales Assistants, Engineering and Promotion departments. Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Requirements: Weekends, holidays and varied hours req. Strong and accurate PC and typing skills and data entry experience required. Must be detail oriented. Prior experience in broadcast traffic preferred. Prior experience on WideOrbit traffic system preferred. Requires excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and accuracy. Must be able to interact professionally with a variety of people and work efficiently and courteously with station personnel. HS diploma or equivalent is required with a College degree preferred.
Maintain and improve existing client list and generate new business on our FOX stations and websites in order to generate significant revenue and achieve sales budget. Make presentations to advertising agencies and clients. Responsible for selling sponsorships that may include promotions initiated by sales persons. Compile lists of prospective customers to use as sales leads. This position involves local travel to call on regular and prospective clients.

A Bachelors’ Degree plus four years of major market experience in transactional and online advertising sales is required. Candidate must be proficient in negotiating utilizing Nielsen LPM ratings and qualitative information. Strong communication and presentation skills – both written and oral are required. Major network affiliation is preferred. Candidate must have proven success with generating and maintaining new business and experience with major sports programming sales. Prior experience with Wide Orbit and One Domain is preferred. Candidate must be detail oriented, resourceful, a team player, reliable and a self-starter.
