Cleveland Indians (37-26) At Florida Marlins (32-33), 7:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - A three-game losing streak is the reason why the Cleveland Indians have lost ground in the American League Central and they will attempt to get back in the win column this evening in the second installment of a three-game interleague series against the Florida Marlins at Dolphin Stadium. The Indians suffered their third straight loss in Tuesday's series-opening 3-0 setback in South Beach, allowing the surging Detroit Tigers to pull even with the Tribe atop the AL Central division. Casey Blake extended his career-best hitting streak to a current major league-best 21 games, ending 1-for-4 for the Indians, who have dropped seven of their last 10 games. Cleveland starting pitcher Fausto Carmona was nearly perfect until running into trouble in the seventh before eventually suffering his first setback since April 13 -- a span of 11 starts. The right-hander was charged with three runs on five hits and struck out a career-high tying six in seven innings. Struggling left-hander Cliff Lee will try to ease Cleveland's pain this evening and the veteran is 2-4 with a 6.31 ERA in eight starts this season. Lee is mired in a personal four-game losing streak and owns a 9.15 earned run average over that span. Lee last took the mound on June 8 against Cincinnati and was saddled with his fourth straight loss, yielding four runs in six frames of a 4-3 setback at Great American Ball Park. The Arkansas product, who is 1-3 in five road starts this season, faced Florida just once in his career on June 8 of the 2004 season. Lee did not factor in the outcome of the 7-5 loss and permitted three runs, two of which were earned, through six innings of work at Jacobs Field. Miguel Olivo's three-run double in the seventh inning lifted the Marlins in last night's series opener and starter Scott Olsen tossed seven innings of three-hit ball for the win. Armando Benitez and Kevin Gregg preserved the shutout with a combined two scoreless innings of relief. Florida ended a two-game slide with the victory and won for the fourth time in six outings. The Marlins are now five games behind the NL East division- leading New York Mets. Byung-Hyun Kim takes the mound this evening for the Marlins and will make his sixth start for his new club. Acquired in May from the Colorado Rockies, Kim is 2-0 with a 4.62 ERA in five outings with the Marlins. Overall, he is 3-2 with a 5.74 earned run average with Colorado and Florida. Kim has recorded back-to-back no decisions, including a June 8 performance against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Kim was rocked for seven runs -- six earned -- in just 2 2/3 innings of work, but was bailed out by the offense in a 14-8 victory over Tampa Bay. The South Korean right-hander is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA in six career games (2 starts) against Cleveland. Cleveland and Florida are meeting for the first time since the Marlins took two of three game against the Tribe at Jacobs Field in 2004. Florida, which is 101-74 in interleague play, also won three straight against the Indians at home in 2002. Cleveland is 96-86 all-time against the Senior Circuit. In 1997, the Marlins won their first of two World Series titles by defeating the Indians in seven games.
