Youkilis Nabs AL Weekly Honor

(Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis was named American League Player of the Week for the period ending May 11.

Youkilis hit .375 (12-for-32) and led the American League with five home runs and tied the league lead with 10 runs batted in.

During a four-game series in Detroit, the 29-year-old went 6-for-17 with four home runs and seven RBI to help Boston take three of the four games.

This is Youkilis' first Player of the Week award in his five-year career.

Others considered for the award were Youkilis' teammate Mike Lowell (.406 average, three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI) and Angels teammates Garret Anderson (.400, three home runs and 10 RBI) and Ervin Santana (1-0, 3.07 earned run average, 16 strikeouts, one complete game and one shutout).
