Philadelphia, PA -- (Sports Network) - Eugenio Velez's error on Geoff Jenkins' grounder in the bottom of the ninth allowed Ryan Howard to score and lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 win over San Francisco.

After Howard and Pat Burrell worked two-out walks off of Keiichi Yabu, Jenkins tapped a grounder to the right side. Velez ranged to his left, but didn't get his glove all the way down to the grass as the ball rolled through. The throw from the outfield wasn't in time and off-target, as Howard slid in for the winning run.

Burrell finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs batted in, and two walks, while Carlos Ruiz homered and Shane Victorino went 2-for-5 with a double for the Phillies, who have won three of four.

Cole Hamels allowed four runs on seven hits over a six-inning start, while Brad Lidge (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth.

Rich Aurilia went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI for the Giants, who made three errors en route to losing the rubber match of this three-game set.

San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum allowed four runs on six hits in six innings, but none were earned. The Giants staff was credited with just one earned run, and Yabu (2-2) took the loss.

The Phillies put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third, thanks in part to a controversial play. Victorino led off with a grounder to short, and Emmanuel Burriss' throw drew Aurilia off the bag toward home.

Aurilia still caught the ball in time to tag a sprinting Victorino, who was called safe after leaning away from the first baseman's glove. But replays showed Aurilia's glove appeared to touch Victorino's midsection, and the inning went on when Eric Bruntlett singled past a diving Aurilia, who was out of position after guarding the runner.

Still, Lincecum got two outs -- a Chase Utley pop fly, and a Howard groundout that advanced the runners. But Burrell smoked the ball off the wall in left to clear the bases and give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead.

The Giants, though, tied the game in the top of the fourth. Jose Castillo laced a two-out single to plate Burriss, and Aurilia roped a double to the gap in left-center to bring Castillo around to knot the score.

The teams again traded a pair of runs. In the fifth inning with Victorino on first, third baseman Castillo threw a Bruntlett grounder past second into the outfield on an attempted double play, leaving the runners on the corners.

Howard later walked to load the bases, and Lincecum tossed a wild pitch that allowed Victorino to race home. Jenkins added a sacrifice fly to push the Phillies' lead to 4-2.

But in the top of the sixth, the Giants equalized the game when Aurilia took a high fastball from Hamels over the wall in left field.

San Francisco edged in front for the first time when Castillo tripled in Aaron Rowand in the eighth inning for a 5-4 score.

But Philadelphia evened the back-and-forth game in the home half, on Ruiz's first homer of the season.
