Miller Time! Marlins Aim For First-Ever Sweep In LA
(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins will try and head into the All-Star break this afternoon with their first-ever four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.Florida, which has yet to sweep a team on the road this season, won for the fourth straight time on Saturday, as Dan Uggla doubled in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning to lift the Marlins to a 5-3 win. Josh Willingham had two hits, an RBI and scored the winning run for the Marlins, who are now tied with the New York Mets at a half-game behind Philadelphia for first place in the NL East. Jorge Cantu homered for Florida, which has won six of its last seven games. Doug Waechter (1-2) threw the 10th inning to get the victory, and Kevin Gregg recorded three strikeouts in the 11th to notch his 20th save. Ramon Troncoso (0-1) tossed a pair of innings for Los Angeles and got the loss in his first major league decision. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier homered for the Dodgers, who could be without closer Takashi Saito for awhile. Saito left Saturday's contest with tightness in his right elbow and will undergo an MRI on Monday. Saito wasn't the only one injured last night, as Florida All-Star Hanley Ramirez had to leave the contest in the second inning with a soreness in his right shoulder. Hoping to complete the sweep for the Marlins today will be young lefty Andrew Miller, who has lost five of his last six decisions. Miller was tagged with the loss on Tuesday against San Diego, as he allowed four runs and six hits in five innings, dropping him to 5-8 on the season while raising his ERA to 5.09. The 23-year-old hurler received a no-decision against the Dodgers in his only other start against them earlier this season, but was hammered for six runs and nine hits in three innings of that one. Los Angeles will counter with a 23-year-old of its own in righty Chad Billingsley, who is 8-8 with a 3.38 ERA. Billingsley had a four-start winning streak stopped on Tuesday against Atlanta, as the Braves reached him for six runs (5 earned) and six hits in 5 1/3 frames. Billingsley defeated the Fish back on April 30 and is 3-0 lifetime against them with a 1.73 ERA in five games, four of which have been starts. The Dodgers swept a three-game series in Florida when these clubs met for the first time this year, which took place from April 29-May 1.
