American League Game Summary - Toronto At Seattle

POSTED: 10:49 pm PDT July 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Miguel Cairo doubled twice and drove in three runs, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set from Safeco Field.

Ichiro Suzuki finished 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for Seattle, which has won seven of its last nine outings.

Jarrod Washburn (4-7) gave up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in six innings for Seattle. The lefty has won back-to-back starts for the first time this season. Brandon Morrow tossed a perfect ninth to notch his fifth save of the season.

"It's frustrating that it took so long, but we're all very happy that we're finally playing the way we know we're capable of, hopefully it continues for a long time," Washburn said.

Adam Lind clubbed a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who have lost two in a row. Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Dustin McGowan (6-7) allowed four runs on six hits and fanned five over six innings for Toronto.

"Ever since I've been in this organization we seem to have trouble with left- handers," Toronto manager Cito Gaston said. "I wish I could figure out why, but we do. I guess it was the Miguel Cairo show tonight."

The Mariners opened the scoring with two away in the third. Suzuki drew a walk and came around to score on a double by Cairo. Raul Ibanez's run-scoring single made it a 2-0 game.

Overbay led off the top of the fifth with a single to center and scored when Lind crushed an offering from Washburn over the center-field wall.

Seattle regained the lead in the home half. After Kenji Johjima flied out to open the frame, Yuniesky Betancourt and Suzuki smacked back-to-back singles before Cairo's second double of the game cleared the bases and gave the Mariners a 4-2 lead.

Game Notes:

Seattle has won three series in a row...Suzuki's last 23 hits have been singles. He has not recorded an extra-base hit in 79 consecutive plate appearances, the second-longest stretch of his career (80 from August 18- September 8, 2001)...The Blue Jays are 7-17 against lefties, 3-10 on the road...The Mariners are 8-4 under new skipper Jim Riggleman...Both clubs stranded six runners...These two clubs will meet again in a three-game series in Toronto from July 25-27.
