OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Two former safari guides are on a mission to save rhinoceroses in Africa.
Matt Meyer has already biked 1200 of the 2000 miles from Seattle to San Diego to raise awareness and money to combat the poaching crisis in Africa- with a 16-foot rhino trailing behind him.
With no biking experience, he and Lunar the rhino bike around 45 miles per day, and are expected to reach San Diego on June 15.
A fellow former guide, Chris Liebenberg is following close by to make sure Matt, Lunar, and the bike are travelling safely.
The money they raise is going directly to three organizations who aim to protect and preserve rhinos. Each day, three rhinos are killed for their horns. At that rate, rhinos will no longer be in the wild in 10 years.
