OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - A country duo called The Young Fables visited our studios today, ahead of two performances in San Francisco and Napa.
Laurel Wright and Wesley Lunsford are from Maryville, Tennessee and have been getting a lot of attention.
Laurel started singing when she was just three-years-old in church and wrote her first song when she was 10.
At 16, she became the youngest winner of the Texaco Country Showdown, a nationwide singing competition. 50,000 people entered the year she won the grand prize.
Laurel has appeared on American Idol three times. She was a finalist on Season 13 and 14 and made it to the top 48 in Season 15.
Laurel says, "I always saw myself as a solo artist, but when I met Wes- it wasn't a forced thing. We just got along and we played well together."
Wes got his first guitar for Christmas when he was 14-years-old. He earned his Bachelor's Degree while studying studio music and jazz at the University of Tennessee.
Wes says, "I've worked with a lot of musicians, but knew from the first moment we started working and writing together that Laurel and I had something very special".
The pair is currently working with Grammy Award-winning producer Mitch Dane with the hopes of recording a classic country album.
They describe their music as modern country with traditional roots or traditional country with a modern twist.
The Young Fables are working to raise $20,000 with a Kickstarter campaign. If you are interested in contributing, click here.
They are performing Sunday night at the Hotel Utah Saloon in San Francisco at 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at Silos in Napa at 7:30 p.m.
