Seattle SuperSonics (19-62) At Golden State Warriors (48-33), 10:30 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors and Seattle SuperSonics finish up their 2007-08 campaigns tonight, as they battle at ORACLE Arena. The Warriors are 2-0 against Seattle this season, and have won four straight in the series. The SuperSonics have dropped five straight and eight of their last nine at Golden State. Golden State, which made the playoffs last year and was eliminated in the West semis by the Utah Jazz, has a chance to win its 49th game of the season this evening. However, the Warriors will not be in the postseason as they were edged out by the Denver Nuggets for the eighth and final spot. On Monday, Shaquille O'Neal finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds, as the Phoenix Suns topped Golden State, 122-116, eliminating the Warriors from the Western Conference playoff picture. Stephen Jackson had a team-high 23 points for Golden State. Two-time All-Star guard Baron Davis had seven points in the loss to Phoenix, and did not play the second half. The Warriors, who have won four of their last five as the host, are 27-13 at home this season. With a win against Seattle, the Warriors will tie the 1971-72 Suns for the best record among teams who did not qualify for the playoffs. The SuperSonics, who have lost 12 in a row on the road and are a dismal 6-34 as the visitor this season, are in the beginning stages of the re-building process, and will attempt to end the season with two straight wins. On Sunday, Earl Watson had 21 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists as Seattle defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 99-95, at KeyArena. Rookie phenom Kevin Durant ended with 19 points and five rebounds, while Nick Collison added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the SuperSonics, who snapped a three-game losing streak in what may have been their final game in the Emerald City. Rumors have abounded throughout the season that the team's ownership group will move the franchise to Oklahoma City should it not reach a lease agreement on a new Seattle arena. If the team does end up moving during the offseason, it would bring an end to a 40-year tenure in Seattle. On Tuesday, The Seattle Times reported that former SuperSonics owner Howard Schultz is planning to sue the current ownership to get the team back, on the basis that the new owners violated the sale contract by not making a good- faith effort to keep the team in Seattle.
