Blazers Try To Alter Suns' Playoff Status

(Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns have a chance to grab home-court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs, as they host the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at US Airways Center.

Phoenix is tied with Houston for No. 5 in the Western Conference playoff race. The Suns can finish anywhere from the third seed to No. 6.

The Rockets host the Clippers tonight, while the Jazz visit San Antonio.

Phoenix is 2-0 against the Trail Blazers this season, and has won eight straight in the series. Portland has lost six in a row as the visitor against the Suns.

The Suns are 29-11 at home this season. On Monday, Shaquille O'Neal finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds as Phoenix defeated the Golden State Warriors, 122-116, at US Airways Center.

Amare Stoudemire had 28 points for Phoenix, while two-time MVP Steve Nash had 13 points and 14 assists. Grant Hill scored 12 points before leaving in the second quarter with an aggravated groin strain, while Leandro Barbosa added 19 points off the bench in the victory.

Hill is doubtful for tonight's contest. He is averaging 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds in 70 games this season.

Portland, which did not qualify for the playoffs for a fifth straight year, is 13-27 on the road this season, and has dropped four in a row as the visitor.

On Tuesday, James Jones led seven Portland players in double-digit scoring with 20 while Brandon Roy posted 16 points and 11 assists, as the Trail Blazers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 113-91, at the Rose Garden.
