Mountain View Man Dies In Tahoe Ski Accident

POSTED: 7:28 am PST February 7, 2007

A 42-year-old Mountain View man died skiing over the weekend when he fell and slid one-thousand feet at an advanced run at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

El Dorado County Coroner Larry Olsen said Guido Maurice Gherardi was pronounced dead Saturday at Barton Memorial Hospital where he was flown by helicopter.

Olsen said Gherardi was skiing with a friend when the two decided to go down Mott Canyon, a run for experts. Gherardi's friend watched him ski down the run and fall, and then found him unconscious without a ski.

An autopsy revealed Gherardi, who wasn't wearing a helmet, died of internal injuries. Gherardi had a head injury, but Olsen was unsure if a helmet would have helped.
