FAIRFIELD -- A Suisun City woman suffered critical injuries when her Hyundai Elantra wagon was struck by a Chevrolet van on Interstate Highway 80 early Monday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said. CHP Officer M. Williford said Shealyann Gibbons, 19, was taken by helicopter to the John Muir Medical Center. Two passengers in her Hyundai, Jessica Chaney, 18, of Fairfield, and David Wagner, 18, of Vacaville, suffered major head injuries, Williford said. Chaney is in serious condition at the NorthBay Medical Center and Wagner is in serious condition at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Williford said. The driver of the van Timothy Loercher, 30, of Antioch, suffered minor injuries and went to NorthBay Medical Center, Williford said. The accident happened at 12:50 p.m. as Gibbons entered westbound I-80 from the westbound Travis Boulevard onramp, Williford said. Gibbons lost control of the Hyundai because of speed and the wet road conditions and skidded into the westbound lanes. The Chevrolet van struck the driver's side of the Hyundai, Williford said. The driver of a third vehicle that swerved to avoid the initial collision and struck the center divider was not injured. All vehicles' occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not a factor in the crash, Williford said. Traffic backed up as far as North Texas Street and all lanes were re-opened an hour later, the CHP said.
