SAN FRANCISCO -- The late-night car crash into a home in San Francisco's Sunset District has evolved into a bizarre homicide case Thursday as rescue workers discovered that the driver had been fatally shot.Police say neighbors reported hearing gunshots around midnight. The dying victim then somehow managed to drive up the street, crashing into cars along the way before careening in to a home in the 2200 block of Santiago St.A small fire ignited in the home's garage and in the vehicle, but was quickly extinguished by emergency crews. As attempts to revive the driver were untaken, it was discovered he had been shot. The crime has stunned local residents of the normally quiet neighborhood."There was a lot of police, a lot of fire trucks and an ambulance," said neighborhood resident Mark Dixon. "Basically it's a very concerned neighborhood. At first we thought it was someone who accidentally ran into the house…But as people found out it was violent incident…a homicide…a lot of people went home last night and locked their houses."Homicide investigators were on the scene and the identity of the man had not been released.
