SAN FRANCISCO -- A teenage girl battled for her life early Sunday after she and a bystander were stabbed by a knife-welding assailant while standing in line at a San Francisco bakery.Sgt. Steve Mannina said the attack on the 15-year-old at Creighton's Bakery on Portola Drive appeared to be random.Police arrested a suspect in the attack thanks to a person who witnessed after he fled the bakery. The suspect eventually ran behind the Laguna Honda hospital, where the witness pointed him out to police, Mannina said. The suspect was described as a man in his late 20s who is a parolee out of Los Angeles. Another person who was in the bakery at the time of the stabbing tried to intervene between the suspect and the girl and that person was also stabbed.According to a dispatcher with the San Francisco Fire Department, both victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital. The attack took place just after 4 p.m. Saturday. Mannina said that it looks at though the suspect didn't know the victim and police don't' know what motivated the attack. "All that is under investigation," he said.
