RICHMOND -- Four suspected crack dealers believed to be members of the notorious "Deep-C" street gang that operates in Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood were arrested Wednesday morning after a 10-month undercover investigation.

DaNicholas Evans, 24, of Richmond; Robert Williams, 20, of Richmond; Brandon Thomas, 22, of Oakland; and Nathanial Carter, 22, of Richmond were named in the indictment. Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan said the suspects were all arrested shortly after 10 a.m. today.

The arrests follow indictments that were unsealed Wednesday by a Contra Costa County grand jury, according to the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration.

All four men face various state drug charges and, if convicted, could face up to 19 years in prison, according to the DEA.

Evans also has a prior felony conviction for selling crack cocaine and a felony conviction for resisting arrest and obstruction, according to the DEA.

The investigation began last October when Richmond police contacted the Oakland DEA's office and asked for assistance in targeting drug dealers in the city's Iron Triangle neighborhood, particularly the 4th Street Park, located at 4th Street and MacDonald Avenue, according to the DEA.

During their investigation, DEA agents and Richmond police officers allegedly conducted over 100 undercover purchases of crack cocaine from the four men, according to the DEA.

The four will be prosecuted by the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office, Gagan said.

The "Deep-C" street gang operates in Central Richmond and its members have been known to commit violent crimes and traffic drugs, according to the DEA.
