REDWOOD CITY -- A former San Bruno high school music teacher faces up to 16 months in prison after pleading no contest to charges he had sex with one of his 17-year-old female students, the San Mateo County district attorney announced on Thursday. Adam Albrecht, 28, a former band teacher at Capuchino High School, was arrested on June 28 at his Broadmoor home after the girl's mother reported their relationship to police. Albrecht agreed to plead no contest on Thursday in San Mateo County Superior Court in South San Francisco to one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, one felony count of oral copulation with a minor, and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for providing the girl with alcohol and marijuana, Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. According to Albrecht's attorney Steven Clark, the relationship was consensual and began late last year, two and a half months before the girl turned 18, and continued after her 18th birthday. Albrecht was charged for acts that took place between February and May, primarily at Albrecht's home, the district attorney's office reported. He has no prior criminal history. The girl's mother confronted her after finding many text messages between the two on her daughter's cell phone, after which the girl admitted the affair, according to the district attorney's office. Albrecht now faces a sentencing range from probation up to 16 months in state prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 2 in Redwood City, according to Wagstaffe. "If you have a teacher having sex with a minor student, state prison is on the table," Wagstaffe said of the prosecution's plea offer.
