SAN FRANCISCO -- A man in his late teens or 20s was wounded Monday on a downtown San Francisco street corner not far from where dozens of tourists were lined up to board the city's famed cable cars.San Francisco police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina said two men in a sedan had pulled up to the corner of Turk and Mason and had engaged the wounded man in a conversation."The pedestrian took off running down the street and there were shots fired," Mannina said. "The man ran to where there were chess players (above the Powell Street BART station and next to the Market Street cable car turnaround) and they helped him."The gunman fled the scene and remained at large."Unfortunately, shooting did occur," Mannina said. "There were a lot of people out here. Thankfully no one else was hurt. It seems these shooters have no regard for what else is going on."Marvin Boykins was playing chess with his friends when he heard "four shots.""I stood up and saw the young guy running toward us," Boykins said. "He kept saying 'I've been hit! I've been hit!' He was shot in the foot."The wounded man was taken to San Francisco General for treatment.
