Amtrak Train Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO -- An Amtrak train heading southbound from Sacramento to San Jose fatally struck a pedestrian Thursday, an Amtrak spokeswoman said. Train 547 hit the pedestrian near Davis Street around 9:27 a.m., the spokeswoman said. The train was carrying 30 passengers, who were transported from the scene via a bus at 11 a.m., the spokeswoman said. At 11:30 a.m., the train continued southbound toward San Jose, but without passengers, according to the spokeswoman. Train 528 heading northbound was delayed for about 50 minutes as a result of the crash, the spokeswoman said. No other delays were reported.
