NAPA -- A woman whose 10-month-old daughter died after being left for hours in the back seat of a car has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, prosecutors said. Haley Sheri Wesley, 27, of Angwin, was jailed briefly on Thursday and booked on the charges. She was released on her own recognizance. Maddison Wesley was found dead on May 18 in her child safety seat in the back of the family's Honda. That morning, Wesley had strapped the toddler into the car seat in a rush after realizing she was late for work. The two arrived at her place of employment, Pacific Union College, around 9 a.m., authorities said. Prosecutors said that after work Wesley drove home, then left again to pick up her daughter at day care. That's when she discovered the child unconscious in the back seat. Madison was pronounced dead at St. Helena Hospital. Wesley is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30 for her arraignment. If convicted, she could receive a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.
