Goldmans Seek Memorabilia From O.J. Case

3rd Suspect Surrenders To Las Vegas Police

UPDATED: 7:32 am PDT September 18, 2007

If the family of Ron Goldman has its way, the sports memorabilia at the center of the Nevada criminal case against O.J. Simpson may be theirs someday.

The family on Tuesday plans to file a request in Superior Court in California to obtain ownership of the sports memorabilia seized as partial settlement of the civil award against Simpson in Goldman's death.

Third Suspect Arrested

Las Vegas police said a third man suspected in the armed robbery case involving O.J. Simpson has been arrested.

Clarence Stewart, 53, of Las Vegas, surrendered Monday at his lawyer's office for police officers to take him into custody, Lt. Clint Nichols said.

Meanwhile, Simpson's lawyer said he hopes to get Simpson out of jail before Wednesday. That's when Simpson is scheduled to be arraigned on charges stemming from a Las Vegas hotel confrontation over sports memorabilia.

He was ordered held without bail after his arrest Sunday.

Simpson has said he was accompanied by men he met at a wedding cocktail party, and that they took some collectibles that Simpson says belonged to him. Simpson said it was merely a confrontation with no guns.

The district attorney said he expects Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor.

O.J. Could Face Years In Prison

Arrested former NFL running back O.J. Simpson will be arraigned at 8 a.m. PDT Wednesday, Las Vegas television station KVVU reported Monday.

Simpson was arrested Sunday on charges related to an armed robbery involving sports memorabilia. He is currently being held without bail pending Monday morning's hearing.

"Mr. Simpson is being booked on five felony charges -- category B felonies," said Capt. James Dillon of Metro police in Las Vegas. "They are very serious felonies."

Simpson was booked on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm, police said.

If convicted of the booking charges, Simpson could face up to 30 years in state prison on each robbery count alone.

Also facing serious charges are his alleged accomplices, including 46-year-old Walter Alexander, of Mesa, Ariz. Alexander has posted bail and been released. Police said Alexander was arrested on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon. Two firearms were seized, police said.

A judge in the case said that Simpson is being treated like any other inmate.

Audiotape Surfaces

An apparent audiotape of O.J. Simpson's standoff with men he accused of stealing his sports memorabilia has surfaced.

The tape was released Monday by TMZ.com. In it, Simpson is heard shouting questions and expletives while other men are heard shouting orders to the men in the room.

The former NFL star is heard demanding, "Don't let nobody out of this room."

TMZ said the tape was made on a handheld recorder that belongs to a co-owner of the Universal Rarities auction house, Thomas Riccio.

He told the site he believed Simpson was planning to confront another man who was allegedly planning to auction off the memorabilia.

Lawyer To Fight 'Vigorously'

Simpson's lawyer promises he will vigorously fight the charges Simpson is facing in Las Vegas.

Yale Galanter told The Associated Press this is an "extremely defensible case" based on, in his words, "conflicting witness statements, flip-flopping by witnesses and witnesses making deals with the government to flip."

Simpson has said he and the other people with him were merely retrieving items that belonged to him. He told police no guns were involved.

Police describe Simpson as being "very cooperative."
