SAN FRANCISCO -- A motorist was shot in the hip Monday after the driver of a mini-van pulled along side his BMW, rolled down the window and opened fire as they drove down a San Francisco freeway. It was the second freeway shooting in the San Francisco area in a 24-hour period. Police would not speculate if the two shooting were related.California Highway Patrol Officer Shawn Chase said the latest shooting took place at around 10 a.m. when a 41-year-old El Cerrito man came off the Bay Bridge and was heading through San Francisco."He said he saw a green Dodge mini-van behind driving erratically," Chase said. "The min-van pulled up along side him…The driver rolled down the window and fired one shot, striking the man in the hip…The man says he had never seen the van before…It doesn’t appear to be gang-related. It doesn’t appear to be road rage."The man exited the highway and drove himself to a near by hospital where he was being treated for a non-life threatening wound, Chase said. The van continued on down Highway 280 and remained at large.Meanwhile, a San Mateo man killed while driving on U.S. Highway 101 in Burlingame late Sunday night was likely shot once before crashing into a drainage ditch.According to Burlingame police Sgt. Jim Ford, Londell Wilson, 25, was shot once in the upper torso while driving northbound on U.S. Highway 101 at around 11:15 p.m. Wilson's silver 1990 Honda then crashed and landed in a ditch north of the Broadway overpass, Ford said. He was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. The incident is being investigated as a homicide, but no suspects have been identified or arrested, Ford confirmed. Wilson was reportedly shot before losing control of the Honda, crashing into a guardrail and then flipping over, according to the California Highway Patrol. "We're researching that theory right now," Ford said. "It looks like he was shot before the accident." According to Ford, Wilson was the only occupant of the Honda, which was significantly damaged from the collision, he said. Crime lab investigators are examining the Honda to try to determine if any other bullets struck the vehicle, he said. Police were continuing to interview witnesses to the crash, Ford said. Anyone who saw the crash is asked to contact the Burlingame police investigations bureau at (650) 777-4100.
