Muni Bus Strikes Pedestrian At SF Intersection

A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries early Tuesday after being struck by a Muni bus near a busy downtown San Francisco intersection.

Authorities said the accident took place at around 5:45 a.m. near the intersection of Sixth Street and Market streets.

The eastbound bus had made a stop to drop off a passenger and then began to move away from the bus stop when other passengers yelled for the driver to stop. When he stopped, he saw the woman lying in the street.

Police said they were still investigating how the woman got in front of the bus. She was taken to San Francisco General for treatment of her injuries.

Muni spokeswoman Maggie Lynch said the driver had been placed on "non-driving" status and would undergo substance testing as is the normal operating procedure when there is an accident.

Transit traffic had returned to normal along Market Street for the morning commute.
