Posted: 10:30 am PST January 21, 2008Updated: 10:48 pm PST January 21, 2008

A teenage boy reportedly shot a man twice in Bay Point early Monday morning after the man refused to give him a cigarette and a dollar, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Chertkow said.

The victim, a Bay Point resident in his 40s, was walking near La Finca restaurant, located in the shopping center on Port Chicago Highway near Skipper Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County, at about 1:50 a.m. when he came upon a group of five male juveniles, Chertkow said.

One of the boys asked the man for a cigarette and a dollar. The man told him he didn't have either and the boy reportedly shot him twice, Chertkow said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The boys were described only as black male juveniles between 15 and 17 years old wearing black hooded sweatshirts and black pants, Chertkow said.

No suspects have been identified or arrested and the sheriff's office is asking anyone with information about the incident to call (925) 646-2441.
