Fairfield I-80 Crash Injures 10

Posted: 2:29 pm PST February 21, 2008

A California Highway Patrol officer and nine people in three vehicles were injured in an accident on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 near Dixon early Thursday.

CHP Officer Marvin Williford said the accident began around 1 a.m. when a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette driven by Christopher McKay, 46, of Sacramento, drifted to the right shoulder of the highway just east of the Pedrick Road over-crossing.

McKay's car struck a Mitsubishi Galant that had been stopped by the CHP officer who was standing on the right side of the Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi was pushed into the CHP officer who was knocked to the ground, Williford said.

Loretta Hayes, 38, of Sacramento, the driver of the Mitsubishi and her six passengers were also injured, Williford said.

McKay's Corvette then slid across all eastbound lanes and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu in the fast lane of eastbound Interstate 80, Williford said.

The driver of the Malibu, Antonia Bradley, 27, of Sacramento, was not injured, but a juvenile passenger received minor injuries and declined aid at the scene, Williford said.

McKay received moderate injuries and was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center. The occupants of the Mitsubishi were taken to Vaca Valley Hospital and the NorthBay Medical Center. The CHP officer was taken to the NorthBay Medical Center.

Seatbelts and child restraints were in use and alcohol is not suspected as factor of the crash that is still under investigation, Williford said.
