Boy Clings To Life After Funeral Home Tragedy

A young boy was clinging to life Wednesday after he wandered away from his parents at his great grandfather's memorial service and fell into a pond.

Authorities said Aaron and Ernamie Buno were attending a funeral service for their grandfather at San Jose's Oak Hill Memorial Park on Tuesday with their 2-year-old son Aizik. The little boy ran off to play with other children when tragedy struck.

"He was just playing with the kids," his aunt, Ernabeth Agutos, told the San Jose Mercury New. "There were some balloons there, and I think he was attracted to them. So he went back. The next thing we know, my cousin is pulling him from the pond."

It was unclear how long the boy was in the funeral home's pond, which ranges in depth from 2 inches to more than a foot. He was revived by rescue workers and taken to a local hospital.

Scott Sells, general manager of Oak Hill, told the paper it was the first time anything like this had ever happened.

"This is a true tragedy," he said.

The boy was listed in critical condition Wednesday and the incident remained under investigation.
