Good Samaritan Dies In Horrific Bay Bridge Crash

OAKLAND, Calif. -- A Danville man who stopped to help a disabled motorist on the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge died when he was struck by a car and hurled into on-coming traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau late Wednesday night identified the man as Anthony Christopher Shafer, 36.According to authorities, Shafer had stopped to help at the scene of another incident on westbound Interstate Highway 80 just east of Treasure Island when a vehicle struck him, sending him airborne into another vehicle.He was fatally injured when he flew onto the hood and through the windshield. The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 7:53 p.m., CHP Officer A. Paulson said. Shafer was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland where he died, according to officials. The coroner was reportedly notified of Shafer's death at about 10:20 p.m.
