SAN LEANDRO -- A man fatally struck by vehicles as he ran across Interstate Highway 880 near Davis Street in San Leandro Sunday morning has been identified as 21-year-old Oakland resident Jose Villa-Galvan, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

Villa-Galvan was reportedly driving northbound in a gold Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and struck the center median at about 2:30 a.m. He and two other men in the car fled the vehicle and made it across the freeway to the right hand side, but Villa-Galvan apparently decided to return to the car.

A 2002 black Acura TL struck Villa-Galvan when he attempted to re-cross the freeway, according to the CHP. As he lay in the roadway, another vehicle, a white or silver Ford sport utility vehicle, struck him. The Acura pulled off to the side of the road, but the Ford fled and is still outstanding.

The two men who were passengers in the Honda fled the scene and had not been found Sunday.

Shortly afterward, a four-car collision occurred just south of the fatal accident, according to the CHP.

Just before 3 a.m. a 2005 white Mercury Mariner approached the scene of the fatal collision at an unsafe speed, according to the CHP. The Mariner struck three other vehicles that were stopped in the No. 3 lane before it overturned. One of the other vehicles, a Lincoln Town Car, was fully engulfed in flames due to the crash.

The driver of the Mariner fled the scene of the collision on foot and had not been found Sunday. Other parties involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries, CHP officials reported.

Lanes of northbound Interstate 880 were closed until about 4:15 a.m. following the accidents, according to the CHP.
