Missing Sailor's Body Washes Ashore

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Mateo County coroner's office confirmed that a body that washed up on the shores of Half Moon Bay Sunday morning is that of one of two men who were aboard a sailboat that disappeared during a race near the Golden Gate Bridge Saturday.Anthony Harrow of Larkspur was found at about 11:20 a.m. in a tide pool area of Moss Beach's Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Half Moon Bay Fire Protection District Battalion Chief David Cosgrave said.U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Lauren Kolumbic said officials have not confirmed if debris found near the No. 3 buoy, about five nautical miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge, came from the missing 32-foot sailboat, Kolumbic said.Earlier Sunday, Coast Guard Petty Officer Dorian Jackson reported that wood planks and what appeared to be a refrigerator door were found in the water about four nautical miles directly west from Daly City.Kolumbic said other debris has since been recovered.The boat, named Daisy, left Richardson Bay Marina in Sausalito at about 9 a.m. Saturday. The race was scheduled to last until 4 p.m., according to the Coast Guard.Boats in the race were expected to sail from Sausalito to the Sea Buoy that marks the entrance to the San Franciscco Bay 12 nautical miles westof the Golden Gate Bridge, and back to Sausalito, the Coast Guard reported.When Daisy did not to return to the marina with 72-year-old Harrow and his fellow sailor by 6 p.m., the Coast Guard was notified and reportedly launched air and water vessels to search for the missing sailboat. Daisy was last seen sailing toward the inside of the San Francisco Bay around 1 p.m. in the area of buoy No. 3, according to the Coast Guard.The search, which extends as far south as Monterey County, includes a helicopter, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat and a 47-foot motor lifeboat, according to the Coast Guard.
