Marijuana Operation Discovered At Richmond Fire Scene

Posted: 7:43 am PDT April 7, 2008Updated: 7:42 pm PDT April 7, 2008

An overnight fire at a Richmond apartment became a crime scene Monday morning when firefighters found as many as 60 marijuana plants in two of the apartment’s rooms.

Firefighters responded to a call at approximately 3:38 a.m. and quickly extinguished a small fire shortly thereafter. The fire was likely caused by a fallen light which ignited flooring material, according to Richmond Fire Department officials.

The plants were found in the back two bedrooms of the apartment, and were removed by police Monday morning along with some lights.

The building was vacant at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the pot growing operation are under way at this time.
