Police are continuing to ask for those who saw a 37-year-old Richmond deliveryman fatally shot as his children watched Wednesday on a San Francisco freeway to come forward so they can track down suspects, Sgt. Steve Mannina said Saturday.

Luis Solari was shot at about 6 p.m. while driving his 2004 Honda with his two youngest children, boys ages 7 and 8, southbound on Interstate Highway 280. The children, who were sitting in the back of the car, were uninjured and the car eventually came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

Luis Solar's employers of have have set up a memorial fund for the man's wife and three children.

Richard Tarner, a bookkeeper at Cherin's Appliances on Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District, said both he and Solari started work at the shop about 18 years ago. Solari had been a deliveryman.

"He was right out of high school, it was his first job," Tarner said.

According to Tarner, Solari, a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers, would often spend time playing baseball or basketball with his children and other boys in his Richmond neighborhood.

"He was like the neighborhood papa," Tarner said, adding that Solari had planned a big barbecue for neighbors for his 38th birthday, which was to take place next week.

Those wanting to contribute to the Solari memorial fund can send donations to the attention of Lilia Solari, Family Benefit Account, A.G. Edwards, Inc., Wachovia Bank, 456 Montgomery St., 16th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104.

Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the shooting, which they are calling a "road rage" incident, and are asking for help from anyone who may have witnessed the rush hour attack.

Police said the shooting suspects, as many as three men, were in a light-colored sedan.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
