SAN FRANCISCO -- A 12-year-old girl is safe at home Thursday morning and is believed to have been with friends since she was reported missing Monday after she failed to show up at school in San Francisco, police said.

Billie McGee was picked up at a friend's house in Oakland by her mother late Wednesday night, according to officials. At 11:50 p.m. police learned McGee had been found and sent an officer to meet with McGee and her mother at their house in San Francisco to make sure everything was okay, officials said.

McGee never showed up at school Monday, prompting a police search that lasted more than two days.
