Here's the YMCA of San Francisco top 10 Water Safety Tips

  • 1. Actively supervise your children when they are both in and around the water.
  • 2. Teach children to swim at an early age and educate them early about water safety.
  • 3. Instruct children to never run, push or jump on others in and around the pool.
  • 4. Become certified in infant and child CPR.
  • 5. Make sure children always wear life jackets and use proper water safety devices.
  • 6. Ensure that kids drink plenty of fluids to stay properly hydrated, especially on hot days.
  • 7. When outdoors, wear hats and sunglasses and apply sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher to protect yourself and your children from sun exposure.
  • 8. Do not enter water you cannot see the bottom of without supervision.
  • 9. Always locate the lifeguard and follow their rules.
  • 10. Make sure safety equipment and a first aid kit are always present.
