One Killed; Two Injured In 680 Wrong-Way Crash

FREMONT -- One person died, two were injured and a third was booked into jail after a wrong-way driver triggered a multiple-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Highway 680 in Fremont, according to the California Highway Patrol.CHP Officer A. Paulson said that a vehicle driving northbound in the No. 1 lane of southbound Interstate Highway 680 crashed into at least one vehicle traveling the correct way on southbound Highway 680 just north of Washington Boulevard.A female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Paulson. Another victim suffered major injuries and a third had minor injuries. After the crash, the suspect vehicle continued traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 680 until Mission Boulevard, where CHP officers implemented a spike strip in the road to stop the vehicle, according to Paulson. The driver of that vehicle was uninjured and subsequently arrested, Paulson said.
