PITTSBURG, Calif. -- The death of a young girl who died after being run over by her mother is being described as a tragic accident by police.

Pittsburg police say six-year-old Rachel Lopez died in a hospital Wednesday after her mother ran over her a few doors down from their home.

The mother was driving home Wednesday afternoon when she stopped her car to talk to two or three of her daughters.

Police say when the mother drove off, she didn't notice her six-year-old had had ridden in front of the vehicle in a big wheel-type tricycle.

When she heard something dragging the mother discovered the girl had been caught under her right-front tire.

A Pittsburg police spokesman says the girl's mother probably won't be cited or prosecuted.
