SAN FRANCISCO -- A girl as young as 12 years old was allegedly gang-raped Friday night in San Francisco, and at least three suspects have been taken into custody by police.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Velasco Street in the Sunnydale neighborhood late around 10 p.m. Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened, and have yet to release many details.

Police said they initially responded to a report of a rape in progress, and that the victim was 12 years old.

A KTVU camera saw an outdoor stairway blocked off by yellow tape, and the victim being taken away in an ambulance to receive medical attention.

At least three juveniles—part of a larger crowd—ran from police before being apprehended in handcuffs.
