A two-county manhunt for a man suspected of fatally stabbing the mother of his two children and assaulting her mother ended late Monday when he was located at a family member's home and arrested, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Law enforcement agencies in Sonoma and Mendocino counties looked for Honorio Pantaleon, 30, who is suspected of killing the 25-year-old woman, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.

Santa Rosa police found the woman's body with multiple stab wounds in a closet in her apartment in the 6100 block of Montecito Ave. at 9:27 p.m. Sunday, Banayat said.

Police went to the residence to check on the woman's welfare after her brother said she had been the victim of previous domestic violence.

The couple's two children, both under age 5, may have been in the apartment at the time of the murder but it's unknown if they witnessed it, Banayat said.

The victim's name was not being released because of safety concerns for her mother, her children and other family members, Banayat said.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said Pantaleon also was suspected of assaulting the dead woman's mother in Ukiah around 6:30 a.m. Monday. His Mitsubishi was found Monday morning near the victim's mother's home in south Ukiah, authorities said.

Banayat said Pantaleon pointed a gun at the murdered victim's mother and hit her in the head with the gun when it didn't fire. He then fled on foot. Authorities locked down the Grace Hudson Elementary School near the home Monday morning.

Pantaleon was considered armed and dangerous before he was located at a family member's home and arrested without incident by the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, according to a police statement. He was booked this morning into the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of murder.

An investigation into the case is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call (707) 543-3590.
