Family Of Tiger Attack Victim Files Claim Against SF

The family of a teenager killed by an escaped tiger at the San Francisco Zoo is filing claims against the city alleging wrongful death and negligence.

The family of Carlos Sousa Jr. is seeking monetary compensation from the city after the Siberian tiger got out of its enclosure and fatally mauled the 17-year-old San Jose boy on Christmas Day.

Sousa's parents allege that the city did not properly house the tiger, which was shot dead after it killed Sousa and attacked two of his friends.

Attorney Michael Cardoza says the claims will be filed Thursday. The city has 45 days to respond to the claims, which are a precursor to a civil lawsuit.

Last week, the city denied claims filed by the two brothers injured in the attack.
