Nine TSA Agents Accidentally Pepper Sprayed At San Jose Airport

A group of federal Transportation Security Administration agents were accidentally pepper sprayed Wednesday morning at Mineta San Jose International Airport, according to an airport spokesman.

Two of the agents were sent to a local hospital as a precaution following the 10:45 a.m. incident at the airport's Terminal C, airport spokesman Rich Dressler said.

The incident began when a passenger in the metal detector line remembered he had a can of pepper spray in his carry-on luggage and informed the TSA agent about it.

"The TSA agent took it out and was going to put it into the hazardous waste disposal and accidentally discharged the pepper spray," Dressler said.

The passenger was not affected by the spray and was allowed to proceed to his flight. No other passengers or airport employees were affected and no flights were delayed, Dressler said.
