Woman's Body Found In Martinez Creek

MARTINEZ -- The Contra Costa County coroner's office was working to identify a woman whose body was found in Alhambra Creek in Martinez Saturday afternoon, a deputy coroner said. A person walking near the creek spotted the body in the water near the 3000 to 4000 block of Alhambra Avenue and called police, Martinez police Sgt. Jon Sylvia said. The body appeared to have been in the water for a while, Sylvia said. The coroner's office was notified at about 1:40 p.m. An autopsy conducted on the body this morning was inconclusive as to the woman's cause of death. Sylvia said it was possible officials would have the woman's identity confirmed this afternoon.
