OAKLAND, Calif. -- A small plane carrying two men crashed into a rock quarry in Oakland Monday afternoon as the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing, an Oakland fire captain said. At about 12:50 p.m., the aircraft, either a Cessna 150 or Cessna 172, crashed in the area of 2020 Wake Ave., said Oakland fire Capt. Melinda Drayton. "It definitely hit hard," she said. The pilot, a 35-year-old man, suffered minor lacerations to his head and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Drayton said. The passenger, a 37-year-old man, declined treatment. The pilot reported seeing his oil pressure gauge plummet before the plane's motor stopped, Drayton said. KCBS is reporting that the airplane is owned by Flying Vikings and carries a KCBS traffic reporter and a pilot. The plane was heavily damaged and appeared to be a total loss.
